Saginaw Train & Grain Festival Bake Off
Official Rules & Terms and Conditions


The City of Saginaw Train & Grain Festival Bake Off will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Winning entries will be showcased during the Train & Grain Festival on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with photographs of the winning baked goods displayed in the competition tent.

Registration
Registration is required and closes on Thursday, September 10, 2026, or when categories reach capacity. Each category is limited to 10 entries.


Categories include:

  • Cakes & Cupcakes

  • Pies & Tarts

  • Cookies & Bars

  • Breads


Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Contestants may enter only one category to allow as many participants as possible the opportunity to compete.


Entry Requirements
All baked goods must be homemade.
Entries must be prepared by the individual listed on the registration form.
Store bought, professionally prepared, or commercially produced items are not permitted.


All entries must be brought in a disposable container or serving dish. The City of Saginaw is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or unclaimed dishes or containers. Participants are encouraged to use containers they do not need returned.
If you wish to retrieve any unserved portion of your entry, you must wait until the conclusion of the Bake Off. Any items not claimed by the designated pickup time may be discarded.


Drop Off & Judging
Entry drop off is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Judging begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. Late entries may not be accepted.
Once submitted, entries become the property of the Bake Off until judging is complete and may not be removed during judging.


Judging Criteria
Entries will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Appearance & Presentation

  • Texture

  • Flavor & Taste

  • Bake Quality

  • Creativity & Originality

  • Judges' decisions are final.

Awards
Winners will be announced immediately following judging.

Awards include:

  • 1st Place: $150 Gift Card

  • 2nd Place: $100 Gift Card

  • 3rd Place: $50 Gift Card

  • Honorable Mention: $25 Gift Card

  • All participants will receive a participation ribbon.

Participants must be present during the awards announcement to receive their prize. Prizes not claimed on the day of the event may be forfeited unless prior arrangements have been approved by event staff.

Photography & Publicity
By entering the competition, participants grant the City of Saginaw permission to photograph their entry and use photographs, the participant's name, and recipe title (if provided) for promotional, educational, or marketing purposes without additional compensation.

Food Safety
Participants are responsible for ensuring their entries are prepared in a clean and sanitary environment. Perishable items should be transported and stored safely until drop off.


The City of Saginaw assumes no responsibility for food borne illness or allergic reactions related to contest entries. Participants are encouraged to identify common allergens contained in their entry, including but not limited to milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts.


General Conditions
The City of Saginaw reserves the right to refuse any entry that does not meet contest requirements. The City reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel the competition due to weather, emergencies, or unforeseen circumstances.
